Living between both countries I have witnessed rapid change in pricing for the sort of things holidaymakers buy

Bottom line it WAS the case that less expensive meal prices but higher drinks prices in Turkey evened up the food plus meals situation

Alas meals are now often at least as expensive as Spain ( hard to generalise but using similar standard establishments) whilst the gap in booze prices continues to grow

Its interesting that your budget offsets itself to almost even if you are long term in Turkey as grocery prices are substantially cheaper ( solely because of exchange rate- how on earth locals survive is beyond me)- whereas holidaying here regularly using bars and restaurants for your trip you will most likely spend more than in Espana

If you mean the Turkish Central bank, I always take in what they say, then read what the economists and Financial experts from external banks are saying. I always come to the same conclusion ..... The Turkish Central Bank tells a few porkies !!
If their forecast isn't good for the end of this year into next, what they are really saying is it is going to be grim.

Grim dollar could reach 8.95 by the end of the year and 9. 23 the following year Fich is saying the same.

It seems that the rise in the Lira is on the expectations of resolve in the Turk/US S400 Missile crisis with hopefully no sanctions from Biden on Turkey ...its reported it could so easily swing the other way with Turkish expectations squashed ...

If only it was so simple Camden, what happens when the great leader takes his finger out of the Dyke, or more to the point puts it in.
My bride and her investment colleagues are expecting a major market correction soon, when, they don't know.

We are blessed and are able to spend roughly 9 months in Turkey and 3 in Spain. Prices have risen significantly in Turkey but this is countered by the exchange rate which we benefit from but unfortunately the locals don't

We still find the restaurant food prices far cheaper here in Turkey (Altinkum) than in Spain and you can still get a cheap draught beer for less than 20tl in the bars away from the sea front. Draught beer on the seafront is roughly 25tl but one of our favourite bars is 18tl and is virtually on the front. Bottled beer on the front is between 25tl-30tl and a bit more in the really trendy bars. A glass of wine is between 25-35tl

Supermarket beer/wine prices are far cheaper in Spain with a wider range of choice although Turkey is getting better. On balance we'd say Turkey is still cheaper but the gap is narrowing.

Altough there are virtually no Brit holidaymakers about, the seafront, beach, restaurants and bars on the front were very busy last night with Turkish holidaymakers and locals.

Turkey’s lira declined the day after a meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Joe Biden appeared to dash hopes that Turkey was prepared to relinquish S-400 air defence missiles purchased from Russia.

Speaking after the meeting at a NATO summit in Brussels, Erdoğan signalled that Turkey’s position had not changed on an impasse that has led to U.S. sanctions on its defence industry.

“We expressed the same thoughts on S-400s to president (Biden) as we had before and also expressed the same thoughts about F-35s," Erdoğan said, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency.

Today in the UK, the latest CPI figures revealed that they exceeded the anticipated 1.8% and rose to 2.1%.
Admitted , when it comes to inflation, Turkey are the masters, but this has been played down as a temporary blip upwards which will have corrected itself by the end of the year (6 months left yet).
Maybe, I'm playing Devil's advocate here but UK citizens are spending more than a year ago and are treating themselves to the staycation goodies such as caravans and motorhomes, fuel has risen for the past year and somewhere along the way we are going to be let off the leash to socialise in hospitality venues, if there are still a few left. House prices have gone silly and debt is rising both for the Nation and the population. And of course Furlough will be ending along with the Stamp duty holiday shortly.
If we cannot control inflation within a month or two with a quick fix, i.e an interest rate rise of a minor nature, we might later have to make a more measured rate rise.
If this were to happen, there are many who have over indulged in debt and might suffer but what might it do to the Sterling/Lira exchange rate ?

We found that in sterling terms we spent more than 30% less here last year, and it is nothing to do with bars/restaurants being closed, we only have the odd lunch out, and no alcohol. It is the local families that bear the brunt.

The Turkish Central Bank met today and decided ... interest rate to remain at constant at 19 percent.

The Central Bank Monetary Policy Committee left the policy rate unchanged at 19 percent. The text of the resolution reiterated the message that interest rate cuts would not be made without a decrease in inflation.

It all makes sense - after a good drink !!
No interest rates cut without a decrease in inflation.
Is that a pre-emptive admission with bit of smoke and mirrors to say that interest rates need to rise to decrease inflation but a certain somebody won't allow It?

Most of the 'record 11 million trees' planted in Turkey in one day did not survive. We rescued 4 trees planted by the forestry commission across from our house. I cannot see the point in planting saplings and not providing a source of water for at least the first few years.
