Watch Out,Scams About
I don’t if this has been mentioned before, but l want to let other new members know of the common scams filtering within the tourist area’s so they know what to avoid.l have also been a victim to these scams which has given me the knowledge of what to expect now and teach others what to look out for.l must point out also in the tourist area’s are some very decent honest hardworking traders, but also there is the deceitful corrupt lot that will contaminate the area with their own poison mind and they just do not care if they tarnish others with the same brush.

1/This one is used so often:You are my very special friend and l want to help you. Here is guy that has hardly met me and he is saying l am his special friend.”ok”,l fell for it first time, because l was new in the country and thought how so friendly the Turkish people are.Not this time.l am a lot wiser now to their scams.Years ago, when l was in Altinkum,l met a Turk who was helping out in the shops that were family owned. One spoke very good English and was given the job to groom the English minds for the sole purpose to increase profits when they are around, the others in the family just helped out the best they can in other chores. They also use the friendship for you accept things, like my mother is in hospital with a life threatening ailment. So they are playing on your emotions to hand over the money of something you do not want. This is not uncommon behaviour.Just say sorry to hear that and hope your mother will get better and just walk out.lf they get aggressive, then they have given you the answer of what you have thought in the fist place.Tell others not to go to these shops.

2/ This scam is called the sudden emergency, which requires the amount of money from the debit card taken out of the automatic cash machines, they play on the lonely and the vulnerable mainly. They can work a few victims at the same time
When you first arrive, you will notice how some are interested in you.But you must recognize the one’s that are handing out their sincere hospitality to the one’s that are ready for the opportunity to pounce to exploit. One will go out of his way to be friendly and to make you think he is the most nicest person you have ever met.He will compare you to the great hero’s of the past your like them,he will also say to you how some are so dishonest here,so please do be careful who you associate with. This is all part of their grooming planning. He may want to borrow money later and say he will pay it back in a couple of day’s[which he won’t].
This is when he thinks he is on a roll and will go for the big one to exploit, now he has won you over. He’ll probably walk in a bar pretending he hasn’t noticed you[which he knew you were there] with his head down looking like a very worried man with signs of anxiety. So,you go up to him[which he has planned in the first place]and you say what is up mate.He will say something like nothing really l do not to ruin your holiday, please enjoy your holiday,l’ll be alright. He has got you now,if you show concern and offer him to sit down where you are playing the part of a samaritan.Yes!,he thinks to himself. Now for the kill. This is the story he will give you.l have fallen behind with my rent and will be evicted by tomorrow if l do not find the money soon[while he is shedding crocodile tears]So you say to him,lt’s all right mate,l’ll give you the money to pay this rent. And he is so grateful, where he shaking your hand and kissing you,you are a true friend,Blah,Blah, all that deceit coming out of his mouth makes you want to puke.He promises he will pay it back before you leave. This person goes around the bars duping tourists with the same attitude. This has happened to me,and when l said to the hotel owner where is he,he said he left, because a lot of people were after him for owning money. Please do not fall for the charms and sop stories.More likely you will be another victim on the rest of the pile.

3/Many tourist area’s do have the prostitution's,where they pray on the tourist bloke fueled with drink to experience the dream of a lifetime[nightmare more like]They will come up to you pretending they really fancy you and get you chatting and then ask you to come with me to this place.Don’t go,please!,because of the sinister side is being of many things.

You go in this bar, where they will sit with you and you just keep on buying them drinks and with the well decorated tables makes you feel in the mood for some fun. When you ask for the bill you will notice how expensive the bill is and so you question it[which is all legal]They will say your lady friend drink is 20ytl and your’s 50ytl.The decorated table cost so much and the time here in the premises cost so much. You haven’t got a leg to stand on.And you will not be allowed to leave until you have payed. They will force you to go with them to the ATM machines to withdraw the money. And the pimp that offers these girls is working for these establishments and therefore will need to be payed as well.So if you see a girl coming up to you and they act all friendly making you think you’re a stud like nothing on earth.Run a mile.Or just joke about it,by saying you must be lying, because l have been diagnosed from my doctor with impotency.

Also you will notice the amount that has been deducted from your account. That’s because when you were escorted to the cash machine they have noted down the pin number. Also be careful as well in some of these establishments, they will spike your drink with a date rape drug,to get you into a situation they want you in.Say for instance you have a glass of Raki in the table while watching the show, they will come over and spike your drink with this drug while your not looking.

4/I haven’t experienced a Turkish massage as yet,but l want others to know from what l have heard of the scams involved when having this treatment. The place you go to for the massage will offer a service away from your mates while you are drunk. You take off your clothes in a room with your money in the pockets and dress yourself in the robe they give you.You go into the room where the massage will take place, but your clothes are in a different room. While one of the accomplice has taken your credit cards and money, only to cash the cards.Sometimes the pin number has been found with the credit card together. Now if they do this a couple of times a day for the next few months in the tourist season, they have made thousands from this, which actually encourages more to do the same, because they teach each other what to do.

5/Another one is the possibility of running a bussiness,by befriending someone that wants to open a business with you.Don’t do it,because of the things they tell you will only be in their favour and not your’s.They promise you they will sort out the work permit and also tell you to put so much in the business to get it running, but their intention is not for you to have a work permit.Once they have the business established in their name and you are still questioning where is the work permit, they will give you the old excuses of delays and don’t worry, when in fact they have phoned up the authorities and got you for working illegally, where you have been deported and them with a nice business that didn’t cost them a penny. Please think before you go into business with another person.

if you can think of anymore scams in the area, please add to it,as this will benefit the people that are ignorant of the area

Add-ons…..

You get quote for a job and they will add on more money as they go along.

In the first instance the maximum you should pay is the cost of materials, labour costs paid after the job is completed to a satisfactory standard. And get all this detailed in a receipt, dated and signed by both parties.

For example say you get a quote for £1500 for a small roof on you roof terrace, they might try and add on extra to prime the metal framework or to paint it (at inflated costs). If you have say a broken hinge on a gate and you ask for a quick repair while they have the wielding gear, they might try and charge £50 just for that (after the job is done)
If they damage something unrelated to the work they are doing they will charge extra to get it fixed for you.

You must cover your A.. in the detailed receipt prior to any work being done to cover all options if you don’t you will probably end up paying an extra £200.

I know people who have tried the relative needing an operation.

And, wanting to be partners in bars etc. ATM cash machines catches quite a few people out with these people supposedly helping them.

If you have anyone come to your place to do some work never, ever let them out of your sight. I did the decent thing and stayed outside with the dogs as I know how scared Turkish people can be of dogs, only to find when they'd gone that there was money missing. What made it worse was they were oh so friendly and charming before they left and they'd just robbed me !

What a Sad, Sad thread!

Nothing new in it, just another opportunity to dish the dirt, and bash the Turk!

Excuse me but I've been told by Turkish people not to let Turkish workmen into your house without keeping an eye on them. The Turkish people dont like these things happening any more than the rest of us.

What a stupid comment to make when l am helping others to be aware of the practices going on so they will not fall to the already growing pile of victims.
l said this before it has nothing to do with racial motives it has something to do with the fact of what they do,not who they are.

lf you don't like the thread then just ignore it or add something that can aid others that are ignorant to these scams going about in the tourist area's

My apologies Bob. :mmph:

Didn't realise that I wasn't allowed to comment on threads that I disagree with. Is that a new forum rule? Or is it one that suits your argument on this occasion?

My comment, put simply, is that there is nothing new in your post that hasn't been posted before.

Therefore, I see it as old news! :bored:

l am not going to let this thread go off topic.lf you read the top bit of my thread,it does state whether or not this has been mentioned before.
Really what you are saying is this thread is racists and that's your argument.OK,let me put this to you..when is racist not racist. As you can see,l have never commented in any way of it being racist or knocking the people of the country.
What l am doing is making people aware of the fact, that there are many scams one must be aware of.Now tell me what l am doing wrong here in your words only.

lf you see it as old news, then ignore it,because others will see it as news as making one aware and will learn from this.
This thread is about scams and adding to it of other scams one's know

l'll be ignoring your posts if it is totally irrelevant to the debate.

BTN I for one welcome warnings being refreshed. With so many newcomers on the site and being made aware should cut down the fraudulent activities.

Digest what you need and ignore what you don't.

Bob must have taken a lot of his time writing the warning. Which he doesn't need to do. Caring about others.

People need to be more careful as crime is escalating.
