UK Certificate of retirement????
OK so I now have my 2-year residence permit and we were out in Turkey from july to 12th October which was fantastic but we were paying 300 Euro a month to rent an awful car so want to progress to getting a car in Turkey

So looking at the paperwork I can bring a UK car in for the two years of my permit on the condition i am retired

Turkish residency permit bassed on retirement? Check

BUT

They need a certificate of retirement from my home country (UK)????

I am only 56? so this could prove a problem. I will be "retired" but living off rental income as a pension so does that count as "retired?"

This is all a bit mad

Any one successfully done this before?

Thinking of buying a second-hand LHDrive car and driving back out in December for 6 months. Ironically this would be OK if we didnt have a residancy permit? Which is mad as max stay otherwise is 90 days

I am also massivly confused that id be given a 6month permit but I could apply to extend it to 2 years?????

The information is just so confusing.

Was going to give up till I found the Skoda Kodiaq I wanted 2.0 Deisel SE was about 35k new in the UK but a meer 998,000tl in Turkey???

So for a saving of £75,000 I was thinking some hassle might be worth it

Never heard of a certificate of retirement, nor do I think you can just “self access” that would make a mockery of Turkish rules relating to vehicles.
Saves a lot of hassle just to buy a Turkish motor. My days of buying secondhand cars are well gone unless it was something special.
Just to add, new cars we bought in Turkey, we had excellent after service.

Would you have to pay road tax in Turkey if you did bring one in? How much for a second hand one in Turkey? If you did get a certificate of retirement and declared it for both of you, then SGK would be payable for both of you each month.

SO many questions and getting a straight answer is like asking Borris for a clear indication of the Covid plan moving forwards :(

Second hand price in turkey is about twice the price of a brand new one in the UK New is 3X the price

I asked my wife briefly passing on your info, I got a lecture about rental property possibly being tax inefficient as a far as retirement income, she then told me what you need to do so long it is commercial property etc etc, I managed to stop her before my ears burst into flames, back to the crux of your question you will get a letter confirming your state pension when its due, no more, I have a company pension and retired early, I got an options letter and when Linsey had made my mind up I got a confirmation of her choice, no certificate, she says she hasn't heard of one and suspects they mean evidence you are receiving a pension.

Tell her I run it as a limited company and draw a dividend,

errrrr no sorry a PENSION :10::5::10:

Company profits are zero all profits drawn as a dividend and finance is fulley tax deductable as its a buisness. Interest only finance and no asset value to the properties. I wont get stung for tax till they are sold which will be my kids problem after I die :) The tax man will have is 2lb of flesh eventualy, but I wont be arround to cry about it and the kids will no doubt apreciate whats left over. :D

It has got to be taxed and tested in the UK every year I was told.

That's fine I can drive home every year and sort that till I get too old to do it.

Its not a big issue if you take the ferry from Italy

We plan to be home every year for July Aug November December. SO we could do the car trip in July.

Strangely our 2 year residency visa is marked down as reason for stay? Retirement?

I expected problems being only 56 but I got none at all. The age question was never even raised as an issue

No income required prooving, no bank account investigations no proof of supporting income required no police visit to my villa??

As with the car thing, many of the things I was warned id defo need were just not asked for.

My mate just drove his camper van over here and has been in turkey several months now with seemingly no issues?

She says you have answered your own question re a pensioner, your income is derived from work, she also said your kids will have to pay the tax before they can touch/sell the property, her stock advice is seek professional financial advice if you haven't already given your change of circumstances and get the authorities in Turkey to define exactly what they class as a pensioner, I recommend a Dacia Duster, best car I ever had.

But because you do not get a Government pension I think if you leave with your car you must stay out 189 day's.

Our Rp was down to retirement before I was 65 no problem and that was a 5 year Rp.

Interesting theme, I'm sure many are following for info. When in turkey a couple of weeks ago. Spoke to a uk friend. Said he purchased a new Duster seven years ago 29,000 tl. His neighbour put it into his app and his car, came out with a value of 55,000 tl now!

But because you do not get a Government pension I think if you leave with your car you must stay out 189 day's.

The system is devoid of logic

SO they grant you a six-month permit to drive if you're a non-resident?

But the visa is 90 days max?

You can get your 6-month car permit extended to up to 2 years but not if your a resident

But you have to be a resident if you are going to stay for two years

You're a non-resident if you spend more than 185 days outside Turkey? Which is just over six months so WTF are they on about?

You can bring in your car for 2 years on a retirement basis, but retired means over 65 and on a state pension, because apparently not working any more and living off investment income is classed as working?

You can pay a sum equal to the tax on the car which will allow you to bring the car into turkey and you can reclaim that sum when your car leaves. But they won't provide ANY information on how that sum is calculated so you could be looking at a massive fee that makes driving 2000 miles a waste of time

Its not surprising so many lose the will to live and end up paying £60,000 to own a base model Dacia Duster :35:

Being retired doesn't make you a pensioner, a bit like eating curry doesn't make you Asian, receiving a pension makes you a pensioner, a few years ago you would be classed as a gentleman of private means.
Who told you a basic duster costs £60,000 ?

Must admit Martin, I thought that was a blooming expensive car. Our Duster was around £11,500 when we bought it two years ago. It was two years old when we bought it. Anthony loves it, but I feel like I'm driving a tank. xx

This is the current price list Sue, I have the prestige diesel 4x4, had it from new, easy to drive and Linsey always uses it before hers for some reason.
