Schengen: Turks increasingly being refused EU visas amid gruelling application process

Extract:
Turkey's foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and his Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt, announced last week that Norwegian citizens would be allowed to enter Turkey for six months without a passport due to a shortage of the chips required for new passports in Norway.

In the replies below Huitfeldt’s tweet of the announcement, the frustration of Turkish citizens was easy to see.

Most of them were complaining about the difficulty for Turks in obtaining a Schengen visa, a system that allows free movement within 26 European countries and which Norway is a part of despite not being a member of the European Union.

A number of Turks highlighted the clear imbalance between Turkey and Norway's visa policies in relation to each other.

Twitter user AKA wrote: "Dear Ambassador, such news can only be good if the same conditions apply to Turkish citizens. Otherwise, Norwegian citizens already get an easy visa. Turkish citizens have to document seven generations of their family for a visa."

Turks frustrated by 'deliberate' increase in number of European visa rejections

Extract:
Turks applying for visas to the 26 Schengen countries are increasingly being rejected, data shows, and tours are being cancelled. Ankara said this week it was a deliberate effort to put President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a difficult position ahead of tight elections next year, a charge the European Union denies.

According to data from schengenvisainfo.com, 16.5% of applicants from Turkey last year were denied a visa, up from 12.5% a year earlier. Schengen rejections were only 4% in 2015 and started ramping up in 2017 for Turks, it shows.

The visa costs - amounting to some 100 euros, or a third of Turkey's minimum wage - are not refundable whether a visa is issued or not.

But I thought the EU just let anyone in including terrorists, murderous and rapists? isn't this one of the reasons we left? ;)

Whilst I feel sorry for them, it's kind of inevitable given the location of the country in relation to countries we have issues with and the fact you can get just about anything in Turkey if you know the right people and have enough cash.

Given some of the ridiculous complex and often unfathomable paperwork, we have to do for an extended stay here, it would be nice if similar issues were sorted out for us.

We went through this process earlier this year for an Irish visa.VFS Global took the application which cost €120 and they promised a turnaround of three weeks. This money is non refundable.
Now we want to go to Germany in November.Reviews are horrendous for the processing centre in Balcova, Izmir.People are waiting months whereas before it took a few weeks.
Perhaps European countries are processing work visas instead of tourist visas. Nearly 2,000 Irish PPS numbers were given to Turks so far this year.

Problems in visa applications not political, but due to practical reasons: EU ambassador

Extract:
Head of the European Union Delegation to Türkiye Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut said the recent rejections in Schengen visa applications of Turkish citizens were mainly due to fake and incomplete documents.

There has been a serious increase in visa applications worldwide after the lockdowns of the pandemic and this increase caused some problems in visa processing in practice and prolonged waiting times, the ambassador told daily Hürriyet.

“I have to make one point very clear. We are facing practical problems that we are trying to solve; it is not a political issue. We see an increase in rejections because we see more forged documents and incomplete applications,” he said.
