Turkish Resident Permit cancelled - help much appreciated :)

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question but here goes...

me and my friend were chatting before and she was telling me that she got in bother last season with the police in marm, i wont go into it much, but to cut a long story short her RP was cancelled and she had to go to court.

They also mentioned that there was an online database where you can see your profile and police record kind of thing...we were wondering if anyone knows of this?? As she is in England and would like to check as she is scared to go back again incase of anymore repercussions - they told her numerous times it had been dealt with and she was okay to go but that was last summer, and since then her RP was cancelled and a 'wanted' warrant out for her at the border...so infact all was not okay at all...wether that was a lack of communication on their part or hers, we just want to see that it is closed now. and there apparently is somewhere to look..

what happens when you have a 'criminal' record over there? Can you reapply for Rp again or should she not bother?
sorry if this sounds crazy but worth an ask.

Your post does rise some questions though. You say, for some reason, which you wouldn't go into that your friend was taken to court and wondering why?

You say your friend was assured, last summer, that the matter had been dealt with and there wouldn't be any further problems, who told her that? Also since then her RP has been cancelled and there is a warrant out for her arrest at the border. Who told her that and how did they find out?

I wonder if your friend has missed a court appearance, hence the warrant for her arrest if she returns to Turkey.

I don't know of the data base you mentioned, maybe other members will know if it exists.

In any case, if her RP has been cancelled she would have to apply to the Turkish Consulate in London for a visitors visa in the first instance.

As you didn't say why she had to go to court and what the outcome was of her court appearance it would be difficult to give you an answer as to whether she would be able to renew her RP as she would have tell them about it when she applied. But in any case they do check for a criminal record so she would be found out if she failed to disclose that information.

It's rather interesting that your first posts back in April related to visas/lost passports and coming in on a duplicate.

You mentioned in one of those posts that YOUR Ikamet (ie RP) got cancelled.

I would have thought it best to put your questions to the Turkish Embassy in London. Failing that, maybe the court that dealt with you initially?

There's a Turkish Govt site that Turkish Citizens can check their records from but I've not known of a similar facility for foreigners in Turkey.

Yes you go to your local post office with your kimlik and pay a couple of lira. They give you an e number and web address. It is only for Turkish citizens. On the site you can access every record from tax situation through medical records.

i was thinking the same thing.

whoever it is that's had their RP cancelled whether friend or OP it would seem that one of them has either been deported or done a runner to avoid a court appearance and is now wondering if its ok to come back.

My advice (unless you have assets or another reason for returning) is don't go to Turkey.

Nothing to do with me, my permit was cancelled due to totally different reasons.

Maybe I didnt explain properly. She missed a court appearance but had no clue, as the police had told her she was free to go and did not mention she would have to go to court at all. Until a month or so ago when she went she found out at the border...she went to court and was free, by the judge, they just said they had wanted to talk to her thats all...but she did not know.

Nothing to do with doing a runner or anything, maybe thats my faukt for not explaining, but people do jump the gun dont they!

hi thanks for explaining..but in the eyes of the police here she did a runner...just like in the Uk ignorance of the law is no excuse.

It was not ignorance of the law, the police told her to go, and it was all fine, she was not to know at all. Nobody wrote a letter or anything, how are you supposed to know you are due in court with no letter?? Even the translator said it was okay.

All we were wondering is if there was some way to look online, if not, nevermind. She was free anyway by the court so she should be able to go back no problem, and they gave her a new tourist visa anyway when she left so..
