Those high prices are astronomical compared to a couple of years ago ! We rarely go out to eat in Turkey. Not because of the prices (2 years ago) but because the food hasn't been up to much, the wine prices were too high and the service very slow. We prefer to entertain at home so, has food etc in supermarkets and the local markets gone up lately ?

I don't use Migros or the big markets. But even the likes of bim are going up in leaps and bounds, the fish and meat now can go up over night. Fruit and vegetables up and down all the but I don't think to bad but that's in the open weekly market.

Finally, the incidence of Covid 19 has begun to decline. Many resorts are open this year. Many trips have become more affordable.

Still far too high, opening up, and the upcoming Bayram travel will not help. Best stay home!

Makes a change from seeing them flying over Cappadocia. It seems Gobeklitepe in Turkey’s southeastern Sanliurfa province wants to give them competition

The first hot air balloons of the season soared into the sky on Monday at the famed ancient site of Gobeklitepe in Turkey’s southeastern Sanliurfa province, heralding the festive season.

The rides in Gobeklitepe, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in June 2018, resumed after a long break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The visitors enjoyed the beautiful aerial view of Gobeklitepe, Harran Plain and Sanliurfa city center when three balloons took off at the same time.

Metropolitan Mayor Zeynel Abidin Beyazgul told reporters they aimed to make Sanliurfa the second largest hot air balloon center after Cappadocia, which is home to fabled fairy chimneys and stunning balloon rides.

“Tourists will find traces of every civilization here, see the first indigenous people, the places where the prophets lived, and taste traditional gastronomy and music related to them,” Beyazgul said.

He hoped commercial flights will begin after Eid al-Adha holiday and Sanliurfa will become the center of tourism.

Gobeklitepe has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List since 2011.

Good news for antalya all hotels are full 680000 beds they say are full. Funny the other week I was told half the hotels were not going to open this year. And everyone else has gone to Bodrum, traffic tailback for miles.

After 6 years of living in Kent, I only recently found out that my nearest coffee shop gives locals a discount on your second cup of coffee purchased on the same visit.
I only found out because my neighbour insisted on paying for both rounds, whereas if I happen to go with friends or family, usually one person will buy the 1st round & another the 2nd & we therefore bypass the discount.
It is a shame that I am not that keen on their coffee. If I happen to have a 2nd drink, it is usually because I want to wash down the bad coffee that I have just had!
