Theres some big Carp around these parts....
All the Turks that I have ever fished with always fish on the bottom.

They thought I was some sort of nutter using floating crust. Funnily enough, with their bamboo stick setup and doing the bottom, they were pulling in a few and decent sizes around the 3 kilo mark.

The crust worked on a couple of biguns but the rod setup just couldnt handle their power and they always broke away.

I guess its the same as in the UK, you really need the best equipment to bring in anything decent sized. Unfortunately the market isnt there in Turkey for anything but the basic rod/reel setups.

Theres truly some great fishing here in Turkey and from what little I have seen on the net its not being exploited.... yet.

I cant remember the name of the actual reservoir - the main road between Aydin & Cine - Out of Aydin, about 15km on the left hand side. Theres a massive dam/sluice and on the hillside next to it, the name of the reservoir is carved in stone on the hillside - three letters.... You cant miss it.

Ken

I have just seen in your profile, you are are a fishing tackle shop owner....

Perhaps you can help and enlighten the rest of us why there is so little info available on fishing in Turkey on the net?

Also would be grateful if you could look in Abu-Garcia paper catalogue and see if theres any listing for Turkey suppliers/dealers.

Thanks!

Merv

Merv, it may be a tall order asking Ken, as a fishing tackle shop owner in UK, to explain the shortcomings of Turkey in promoting fishing as a sport. However, I do agree that he is the closest we have to an expert - So, Ken, explain on behalf of worldwide fishing, please. :)

Now you have really got my interest up merv, I did not know there was carp fishing in Turkey, is there any places in Kusadasi for fishing, I talked to several people fishing of the beach near me, but they said you have to go out a couple of miles before you catch any decent size fish.

But I would love to find out more about the freshwater lakes in the area.

Brian, there is a place that all the locals use on the Izmir road.

Drive out of Kusadasi towards Selçuk. Once you come to the set of traffic lights - (the set that bears right for Selçuk), go straight on as if you were driving to Izmir.

About 3km past the lights, there is a hump back bridge. Most locals park their car underneath this bridge and walk to the stream which also passes underneath. Havent heard about any Carp in this one, but its well stocked with many other species. Have fished it myself and had a good mixed bag.

The Carp lake I was talking about is about 1:20 mins away.

I have always wondered why there isn't a big fish market in Turkey as in Spain & France. Why don't you get some proper gear & some boilies imported Merlin? .. Could be onto something eh?

Carp fishing, now there`s a problem. Do I take all my fishing tackle OR bring the wife. It`s a no brainer - sorry love, cant afford all the overweight luggage so you`ll have to stay behind
Anybody out there who might be able to explain this more diplomatically to my wife- not a coward but sure ain`t stupid! :harhar:
