In Burma, thousands of members of the Rohingya Muslim minority are fleeing persecution from Buddhists. Abused by smugglers, they are being turned away from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

I have been reading the news and seen some horrific images of what is being done to these people, I thought Buddhists were suppose to be the most peaceful of people?

What is going on in this world where humans can inflict so much pain on others just because they are different? Where is the world community while this genocide is going on now?

The U.S. Response
Burmese President Thein Sein meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama in Yangon last year. The Obama administration appointed Derek Mitchell as the U.S. Ambassador to Burma in 2012, lifted a travel ban on some of the country’s senior leaders and eased sanctions on American investments. In November 2012, President Obama became the first U.S. president to visit Burma and he returned in November 2014.

While a ban on gems remains, President Obama waived sanctions on most imports and in 2013 the U.S. Congress allowed sanctions under the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act to expire.

Military to military relations have also been advancing without clear benchmarks for reform and addressing ongoing human rights abuses. The United States allowed Burmese officers to observe joint U.S.-Thailand military exercises and has begun limited exchanges

I think this planet is on tilt.

Was all this going on 40 or 50 years back, maybe it was & we were either not told about it or just bloody naïve. Cant pick up a paper anymore without reading about some slaughter or massacre & sadly its now on every Continent. Smells like a religious clash but it seems to always end up being a greed for assets clash.

I don't mean to be offensive in away shape or form Mushtaq, but welcome to the 21 century. This kind of atrocity's have been going on for years, from America to China, from Australia to Russia. At the present this kind of evil acts are focusing on the ME with ISIS but we all know it goes on all over the world."Man's inhumanity to Man" I really have never understood it and never will.I picked out part of your post because that is why there is so much hatred in the world today "Because they are Different".
As you say Burma killing Muslims. Pakistan killing Christians,so on and so on.Will it never end? One day perhaps. Inshallah.

Also in that troubled country are the Karen people , still being persecuted for the uprising in 1949.

The Rohinga and the Karen are testament to the Myanmar'i Governments persecution of minorities.

People will never convince me that certain issues that lead to conflict are not foreseen. There's specialists on the outside looking inside every country, they see it coming five years previous & just let it happen. Then in steps the big boys, we will loan you this & rebuild that for you but we need this.
Incredible statement which we can all remember: "we cant let the banks fail" but quite prepared to let countries & people fail. Its about time they got their priorities right.

Very disappointed by the lack of response to the Rohingyas' plight by Aun Sung Su Chi (hope I've spelt the name correctly.)
As a former political prisoner of the military junta in Burma she could at least have some empathy with these people but no, not a word. Like all politicians she just seems to be out for the vote.
Shame on her.
