Just for a refresher, why are we killing them again? Are we still at war with them?

What do you reckon, perhaps us super military powers should invade Afghanistan in support of, as our PM says, one of the most "fantastically corrupt" governments it the world, give those Taliban a good spanking for being scum and teach them a lesson they wont forget in a hurry, what could possibly go wrong ? :ukflag:

Des, we used ground troops, advanced weaponry, artillery, multi million pound aircraft and helicopters, cruise missiles from submarines and failed miserably, after fifteen years do you really think drones will succeed where the previous didn't,? whose running Helmand now do you reckon?

They should use drones to destroy the opium fields out there, that's where the money for the Taliban is coming from, just like ISIL with the oil................both were/are multi million £ businesses.

We need to move on. Drones will be the modern warfare eventually. Fire and brimstone delivered to your front door from my armchair....:laser:

The truth is that poppy production boomed under our watch, our payment to the warlords for their help, the Taliban previously had all but eliminated poppy production.
A more accurate comparison would be to Saudi Arabia, just like the Talban but with oil so they get to be white hats.

In July 2000, Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, collaborating with the United Nations to eradicate heroin production in Afghanistan, declared that growing poppies was un-Islamic, resulting in one of the world's most successful anti-drug campaigns. The Taliban enforced a ban on poppy farming via threats, forced eradication, and public punishment of transgressors. The result was a 99% reduction in the area of opium poppy farming in Taliban-controlled areas, roughly three quarters of the world's supply of heroin at the time. The ban was effective only briefly due to the deposition of the Taliban in 2002.

Big deal. There are millions to replace him. Nothing has changed or got better. Taliban will carry on as usual. Just wasting tax payers money on drones.

niyaz,
You might possibly be right, but will anybody want to take on the job when they know that there might be a drone on their tail whenever they venture out.

Bill.

After seeing what these people are capable of doing I think drones to them are just occupational hazards. They don't go looking for drones but it seems they expect to go in a blaze or glory............or metal.
The only problem with drones, there's no hearts & minds, just DUCK.
