There is a restriction on how much cash you can leave the UK with. Used to be £5000.00pp, haven't checked recently.

There is not exactly a restriction, but you must let "them" know if you are taking out sums from the UK above a certain amount. Follows the information.

From Directgov web site: "From 15 June 2007 if you are travelling to a country outside the European Union (EU) you will need to declare any sums of cash of 10,000 euros or more (or the equivalent in another currency) to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). You must declare cash on duplicate form C9011, and post the completed top Copy 1 in the drop box provided at the port or airport. The term 'cash' covers: currency notes and coins bankers' drafts cheques of any kind, including travellers' cheques

You can get this form at the port or airport and complete it there, or you can download and print it by following the link below, which allows you to fill it in before you start your journey.

HMRC officers may ask to see evidence that you have made a declaration, so it is important you keep a copy of the completed form. This is automatically generated on carbon Copy 2 if you make your declaration on a form provided at the port or airport. If you use the printed down form, you will need to photocopy the completed Copy 1. (You do not need to complete Copy 2 of the printed form).

You may be fined if you fail to declare the money or give incomplete or false information."

Hope this helps. Maisie

According to my very good friend Mrs Sylvia Ngoto, 5th ex-wife of the President (deceased) of the Free State of Mdabe you can transfer up to $20,000,000 at a time into her account and she'll look after it for you. You'll never have to worry about your money ever again, apparently.

Just supply her with your full-name, date and place of birth, mother's maiden name, your bank account details including PIN to your online account, the name of your pet dog....................................

a quick skim of the link posted below indicates the limit applies to residents. Non-residents are not bound by the same rules

as I said - misinformation. Best to go to the official source for an accurate answer
