Hi all
I know, another wasp sting story, please read, it could help you or your friends.

Today, 13.00 hrs. Cutting palm tree, stung on head by wasp/bee (SLIGHT reaction in the past), run to wife, she laughs. I take anti histamine tablet .

13.15, finished cutting palms, itchy sensation on hands, strange ?, probably to hot, jump in pool for swim.

13.20, itchy feeling now over most of body, exit pool, go inside to dry, towelling off, wife says “what’s that”, large blobs under armpits, I also feel slight throat irritation.

13.30, blobs now on arms, legs, lips and throat worse

13.35, changed clothes, drive to local private hospital (7 min away)

13.42, arrive A+E, wife signs me in as i am taken to emergency room , tell nurse of the sting and my reaction to it.

13.50, oxygen mask on, I V line put in to hand (in case they need to inject drugs quickly) put on a drip of Anti sting ( don’t know the name)

14.00, taken to private room, just like good quality hotel room, itching intense, blobs / swellings all over, worst in hotter areas (arm pits, groin ect), still on Anti sting (second bag so far), nurse says any problems push the help button.

14.20, Wife helping by pointing out new blobs and my red complexion.

14.30, restriction in throat, hard to swallow, push THE button.

14.31 nurse in room, she gets a doctor, checks breathing, he thinks i am ok, but organises E N T to look at Throat.

14 .45 E N T doctor, I tell my problem, taken to examination chair, he puts endoscope (camera on a stick) in ears, up nose and in the mouth area, all this in colour on a monitor that me and wife can see, i thought thats that but no, doc asks me to poke out tongue i do, he grabs it and down the camera goes, not good.

15.00, back in room, E N T doc happy, swelling going down, i also feel a bit better, drugs working, wife still helping “you look better now” “wish i bought the camera”

15.00, feeling very good now, I know this as now I am thinking what’s this going to cost ( no insurance) wife still helping by saying 10€, 20€, 30€ as the drip feeds the anti sting in to my arm.

16.00, discharged feeling good, all for 560 ytl.

Point of post.

Wasp or bee stings effect people in various ways, no two stings are the same, if you experience swellings or itching take care. I will always carry Antihistamine in the future.

Hi Gra..glad you nhave come through this ok..but with a reaction as severe as this (Anaphylactic shock) you should really carry Adrenaline (epinephrine) injection Epipen is this drug in a preloaded syringe and at the first sign of tingling etc you give yourself a shot.
This type of severe reaction is also seen in people allergic to peanuts or other food stuff as well as insect bites.
İt can also happen following a tetanus injection, or other drug treatments such as immunizations or vaccination. İts rare but it can happen.

Sorry to hear about your problems.
I had a wasp sting in April whilst I was sleeping in bed in the UK. The pain was awful and we had nothing in the house to help. The pain lasted a few days then I had a rash on my neck and was treated for ecxema. Five months down the line after several different prescriptions I went to a specialist today, (privately) and he thinks its psariosis (sorry can't spell), it may have been brought on by the wasp sting in April! I have suffered all this time, glad I bashed the wasp but don't tell my hubby as he doesn't believe in killing anything (A Buddist!). So it appears that as I have gotten older I have develped a reaction to stings. Think I'd better get some of those AntiHist tabs.

Hi, thanks for the replys

As we live in turkey , can i get an adrenaline injection kit here ?.
Also, i was told some time back, every time you get stung the reaction can get more severe, dont know if this is correct, but in my case maybe

My sister in law is allergic to bee stings, and each time she has been stung her reaction has got worse. She was told to always carry an epi pen after the last episode which involved a similar story to Gra's but was in France.

this is true..maybe you have been stung before without a reaction..but in some cases this triggers a response so that subsequent attacks can be progressively worse.
Yes you will be able to get the Adrenaline here. Epipen, epinefrin in Turkish..just ask at the chemist..or get a script from the hospital.

Glad you're ok now. I have the same reaction if I eat any yolk or albumen (egg, Yumurta) products. I carry epipen and cetrizine antihistamine, but if you go into a shock the epipen would not save your life, you inject the epipen and call an ambulance as you have to go on to a drip. The epipen and cetrizine will help you though, as mine has quite a few times when I have inadvertently eaten egg. I have to be so very careful.
