You probably can buy a SIM card, HOWEVER.

But in reality you need to register the phone first, then check the SIM works.

If your phone is not already registered, then that cost 'I think' 100TL + 25TL Registration, then plus a SIM card package.

So as you are only on holiday (judging by one of your other posts) you may want to think is it worth it just for the duration of a holiday.

A search on the forum will reveal lots of information on this subject.

I was told in Alanya that my phone is automatically shut off after some weeks. I cant remember the exact range somewhere between 1 week and a month. This is to discourage theft. So I had no need to register because it works as long as I was there. For me it was invaluable as many turks are still not online.

I think you may find that is up to two weeks and often much less

WiFi connection is freely available particularly in holiday resorts.

If you are in Turkey on holiday - the best thing to do is to buy a 5 TL phone card from a corner shop - or only 4 TL from the PTT Post Office - lots of phone boxes all around - and you can talk to an English landline for about half an hour for that price.
