Selling property in Turkey via POA - could this help you?
Hi all.
I have been hoping to be able to write this for several weeks now, and at last I can, we have sold our apartment and the cash is in the bank, but as much as that is the headline news, just as importantly for people who just cannot find the time I have done it by POA, with someone I had never met, heres the tale.
Anyone who knows us is aware that though we loved our place in Altinkum on the sunflower complex, it was going to be impossible to use it enough due to the three grandkids in Australia, Twins being the latest addition, so around a year or so ago I tried one of the online sales companies, what a waste of money, so late last year we put it up with Elit properties, but sadly though we never got any calls even though "we do business all year round" was the trumpet call we were given, so my attention was turned by the usual ad in voices magazine that is in weekly from Realty world, sister company to the voices magazine itself, it goes on to say they have something like 169 branches throughout Turkey which kind of placated me a little, I contacted them, told them how to gain access to value it, but importantly I told them how much I wanted after all payments of taxes were paid, ( I was very realistic but not silly), shortly afterwards they got back and said they were happy to market the property at my price, a contract was drawn up and within 2 weeks a buyer was found, sadly I was due in Australia at the time the buyers wanted to do the deal, I asked Hasan Bayrak of realty world about POA and he said a company in the UK could do it called London Legal, so I contacted them at e.aydemir@londonlegalint.co.uk I spoke to Ezgil, and I asked about POA in Turkey, her immediate reaction was to say don't give it to anyone you don't know in Turkey, but before the end of the conversation she asked who I wanted it for, and on hearing Hasan Bayrak she simply said oh no problem we have worked with him many times without any problems for any sellers, we went ahead and paid £420 to London Legal for the POA documents, I quickly nipped over to Turkey to clear the apartment out and give the docs to Hasan, we then went to Australia for our holiday.
Now there was one or two blips, the buyers changed their plans and decided to take the money to Turkey rather than send it on the given day, and it was not until I asked how things were going that I was made aware of that change, but on the whole for Turkey the procedure went better than I anticipated, Hasan paid outstanding council tax, and aydin bill, sent receipts and deducted the funds out of money as would be expected, and I can only presume that the short fall £150 would be caused by the money going in the bank on one day and not reaching the UK for a week later when perhaps there had been a shift in exchange rate.
On the whole I would recommend the using of realty world with Hasan and his team, and if like me you need POA from the UK then I also recommend London legal.
I have bothered to write this simply because it used to get wrote 100 times a week not to give POA to anyone you did not know in Turkey and though that's on the whole correct, its nice to know that SOME of them people who all get tarred with the same brush are actually honest and hard working.
Kind regards
martin
