Russia's gas shutoff is forcing Europe's biggest buyer of its supplies to draw down winter emergency reserves
It’s a funny old world.
One the one hand we have politicians telling us green is the way to go. So any form of sanctions on Russian gas/oil are good for the planet in the long term & hits Russia’s finances.
Then the same politicians want a pat on the back for replacing Russian gas and oil from all over the world 😂 So much for green, not too sure about Russia’s finances either.

Unrealistic Demands Hindering European LNG Deals: Total CEO

Buyers can’t have cheap gas and flexibility, Pouyanne says.
Germany’s Scholz visits Middle East to drum up energy supplies.

Europe’s frantic search for gas supplies in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is being stymied by buyers’ unrealistic demands, TotalEnergies SE’s chief executive officer said.

“If Europe wants some security of supply, it has a cost,” Patrick Pouyanne said in the Qatari capital, Doha, where the French energy company signed a deal to invest about $1.5 billion in a massive liquefied natural gas project. “If you want a cheap price for a short duration, the answer obviously is ‘no.’”

Nations are clambering to replace the Russian pipeline gas flows they would ordinarily rely on during the winter. Gas stopped flowing through Nord Stream, Russia’s biggest pipeline link to Europe, on Aug. 31, and there’s no indication of when shipments will resume.

Gas prices have surged to more than seven times their typical seasonal levels, bringing the European economy to the brink of recession. Buyers are pushing for short-term contracts to buy liquefied natural gas but aren’t prepared to pay higher prices, Pouyanne said.

Several European leaders have visited Doha trying to secure more gas. The latest is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is scheduled to visit Sunday. Germany relied more heavily than its neighbors on Russian gas.

“It’s not a matter of politics,” Pouyanne said. “It’s a matter of delivering price and volumes.”

The talk is focused on this winter, when is the penny going to drop, this fiasco is about plenty of winters to come!!
Will we see those in the EU Parliament debating in woolly hats, scarfs & mittens 😂
What a clever bunch of effing pr*cks Western politicians have been. OK they needed to do something but their “doing something” is hitting every man, woman, child and business across Europe. No, I offer no alternative but be sure of this, something needs doing other than going cap in hand to other suppliers, suppliers that on a normal day, politicians wouldn’t go anywhere near.

The seizures of football clubs, houses, yachts, bank accounts hit the chosen few.
The blowback has hit over 300 million people.
Noted we’re only hearing about Germany’s plight & yet it was the EU’s President herself standing at a podium laying out the plan of action!!
The scourge of the EU has been Hungary & Poland, guess what? They on appearances, have secured their energy, ruffled plenty of feathers in doing so but nonetheless, they’ve put their people first.
