Restrictions on non nationals purchasing a property in Bodrum
Hi

We are researching the possibility of purchasing a home in central Bodrum.

What restrictions apply to non nationals owning property in this area?
and do they apply to certain areas only or a defined location or are they set to a distance from a key point?

How would we be able to tell if a certain property was available or un-available to non nationals?

Any help or advice please

Hi Guys

Thats what your military check is for - and now that the service should be days rather than weeks, it will take a huge amount of uncertainty away.
I believe both the governers office and the Tapu office will be holding the relevant information.

good luck with your hunt

Thanks Steve.

How does the Millatary check decide what properties / areas will be restricted to nationals only.... this is what we cant get our heads around.

If a property or area was restricted to nationals only, surely it would be stated in the sale advert?. Seems only sense not to waste peoples time / money? pursuing a sale / purchase only to find out at a later date that it was a non starter

as a rule of thumb, if it has already been bought by a foreign national then it should be good to go again.

Regretably they will not allways advertise that sales are restricted - and will often try to persuade you to buy though a company to get round the issue.

yes, you'd have thought so... the military zones in Bodrum seem somewhat random, and I've never met anyone who's managed to get a good definition of where these zones exist! Having said that, a reliable estate agent will be able to offer you some guidance.

Some friends of ours recently gave up looking in central Bodrum because every house (and they looked at lots) they found couldn't be bought by foreigners. FYI they got friendly with the TAPU office, but even they were unable to offer any reliable guidance.

Peninsula-wise; and very broadly speaking, and as far as I'm aware; locations on South, or South-West of the peninsula (e.g. Bodrum to Turgutreis) are likely to have clearance problems for foreigners. Areas from Gumusluk to Torba are OK.

Thanks Dave.

Seems as though that there is no clear definitions, other than checking each individual property.....

that is true - one side of the street you can take the title deeds in your own name - the other you can't in some areas of Domalan in Turgutreis. Helen
