Repair Funds Raised for Bulgarian Unique Church in Istanbul....
A non-governmental organisation has donated EUR 20,000 for the reconstruction of the roof of Bulgaria's St. Stephanos Church in Istanbul.

The fund-raising campaign for the Iron Church in Constantinople, as it is commonly referred to, was launched in June by the same-name foundation who will finance the overall reconstruction of the building.

The project will be implemented by Bulgarian and Turkish architects and will cost some EUR 1.5m.

The St Stephanos Church, initially built of wood in 1848, belongs to the Bulgarian minority in Istanbul. The church is considered unique for its architectural vision and construction. It was later rebuilt by assembling iron construction plates to prevent it from erosion in the predominantly moist area.
