Quick facts about Bodrum
It is located on the south coast of the Bodrum peninsula, at a point where the gulf of Gökova is reached and is also the center of this city, called Halicarnassus of Caria, which in ancient times is famous for its mausoleum, one of the Seven Wo Woo Mausolus, which was the center of this eponymous district. The town was named the Halicarnassus of Maušulus in ancient days.

One of the biggest attractions in the peninsula is St. Peter's Chateau, also known as Bodrum Castle. Founded during the 15th century by the Knights Hospitalier, this castle includes parts of Mausoleum Ruins as a source of building materials. Bodrum Castle preserves its original style and character, representing Gothic architecture.
