Rolls-Royce SMR signs MOU with Sheffield Forgemasters

Extract:
Rolls-Royce SMR has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sheffield Forgemasters to jointly explore commercial mechanisms for a long-term collaboration on the supply of forgings to the Rolls-Royce UK Small Modular Reactor (SMR) fleet.

The project directly supports the UK’s civil nuclear renaissance and the development of SMRs in the UK, with Sheffield Forgemasters able to supply the complex, nuclear-grade demonstrator forgings as part of the regulatory process.

These important components will benefit from the decades of experience Sheffield Forgemasters has built up and its world class delivery experience.

David Bond, CEO of Sheffield Forgemasters commented: “SMR’s have the potential to become the standard for civil nuclear power generation and as an emerging market, fits extremely well with our long track record of supplying nuclear power components into the UK submarine programme.

“With a new investment fund of £400m to replace our defence critical assets, including the provision of a new 13,000 tonne forging line and 19 state-of-the-art machining centres, we will create much higher levels of manufacturing capability and efficiency, to the benefit of defence nuclear work, but with obvious cross-benefits for civil nuclear activity, including SMR’s.

When fully operational the Rolls-Royce SMR programme will create 40,000 UK jobs primarily across the North and Midlands where the majority of UK nuclear expertise is located, with the potential for £52bn in economic benefits from export.

Bentley Motors opens new £12.5 million Engineering Test Centre in Crewe

Extract:
Bentley Motors has announced that its new Engineering Test Centre has commenced operations after receiving official approval from Britain’s Vehicle Certification Agency. Based at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, England, this latest investment follows the recent recertification by the Carbon Trust marking three years as a carbon neutral site.

The move is a major stepping stone in meeting the standards set by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the achievement will allow Bentley to carry out in-house emissions, fuel economy and electric range testing to the highest global standards, all from the Test Centre that has been christened, 33 Pyms Lane. It is also a further endorsement of the stringent test regime now in place at the company’s manufacturing headquarters, where all Bentley cars are hand-built.

The independent authority certification represents another major step forward in the company’s drive towards electrification, a key pillar in Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy to become the world’s most sustainable, luxury automotive manufacturer. Crucially, the £12.5 million centre will allow Bentley to carry out the latest WLTP* fuel consumption and efficiency test procedures more swiftly in-house.

Shell ditches the Dutch, moves to London in share structure overhaul

Royal Dutch Shell has unveiled plans to move its headquarters from the Netherlands to the UK. Since 2005, the Anglo-Dutch energy giant has been incorporated in the UK but registered in the Netherlands for tax purposes and headquartered there. #Britishjobs🇬🇧

Extract:
Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) said on Monday it would scrap its dual share structure and move its head office to Britain from the Netherlands, pushed away by Dutch taxes and facing climate pressure in court as the energy giant shifts from oil and gas.

The company, which long faced questions from investors about its dual structure and had recently been hit by a Dutch court order over its climate targets, aims to drop "Royal Dutch" from its name - part of its identity since 1907 - to become Shell Plc.

UPDATE: Shell's shareholders have overwhelmingly backed plans to move its headquarters from the Netherlands to Britain. Since 2005, the Anglo-Dutch energy giant has been registered in the Netherlands for tax purposes and had its worldwide headquarters in The Hague. #Britishjobs🇬🇧
