There are several of these plants in flower in the valley hedgerows at the moment.

I know what it is, but do you?

I'll give a Rep Point to the first member who posts one of it's common names AND it's Latin name.

Carol gets the Rep Point

It's also known as the Dragon Lily, the Common Dragon Arum, the Viagra Lily. It's a member of the Arum family.

Looks more like a red cabbage than a lily. I gather it doesn't have an appealing fragrance?

I'd have a serious word with the bloke that's supplying your red cabbages if they look like that !

Yes, it gives off an odour of rotting flesh to attract flies to pollinate it. I got the scent of this one from about 20 metres away.

These plants fascinate me,because they are carnivorous. They attract the flies with a rotting flesh smell, where they drown at the bottom of the plant, where the rain water collects and then starts feeding of the bodies by breaking it down with enzymes.
Am l of course on this one

It's much the same colour as a red cabbage. When I buy red cabbage it's ready washed and shredded.

The locals here still call it a dog's penis, the first time I saw one I dragged my friend round to have a look at it and thats what he told me.

Mind you all bugs were called Bojek until I introduced the name "creapy crawlie", so now all bugs and insects are "creapy crawlie bocek", there is no help for some people!!!

So, do you expect a Rep Point for managing to get the "p" word mentioned twice in one thread?

Bob, I think you're on the wrong track. These ones attract flies to pollinate them, not as food. They do look a bit like some members of the "pitcher plant" family though.

What do you think of this one.lt has nothing to do with Turkey, but l thought l'll just show this arum which is the largest in the world.
And this one really is gross. The voodoo lily is a novice in stinky points when against this mother of all stinks.
