Paneer Makhani - Paneer delicately blended in tomatoes and butter sauce

1/2 cup. Paneer Cubes
2 tbsp. Onion Puree
1tsp. Ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp. Red chilli powder
1/4 cup Tomato puree
A pinch Turmeric Powder
1 tsp. Fenugreek Leaves (if available)
3/4 cup. Milk
1tsp. Sugar
1/2 tsp Butter
1/2 tsp. Vegetable Oil


1. Heat the butter and oil in a pan.
2. Add the onion paste, ginger-garlic paste and stir for some time.
3. Then add haldi, chilli powder and tomato puree and cook till the oil seperates.
4. Add dry fenugreek leaves at the end (if available). No gravy should be left at the end.
5. Finally add the milk, sugar, salt and paneer cubes and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
6. While serving add the butter on top.

Teresa, its a soft cheese used in Indian cookery, you can buy it in most Asian shops, and even some larger stores like Tescos (I think they have regional verity of goods)

Thanks Mushtaq, now you say it is cheese I may have seen it in the shop. And thinking further Peynir is Turkish for cheese isn't it, which may be why I think it is familiar.

I may have a bash at some of these recipes.
