Opening a bank account
Hi.
We need to open a Turkish bank account to pay in funds to purchase a property
We won't own a property yet and we won't be renting one.
Could we open an account with a sale contract?
We have a tax number already.

Thanks

Don't bother pay from your UK account Turkish banks are a nightmare.
Use your solicitor to do the transaction

Yes but there is new system for buying and selling and it links to a Turkish bank account so it means no settlement or money payment risks and a big advantage... much better than trusting a Turkish solicitor (NEVER)... did you know that unlike the UK, Turkish solicitors are not authorised by the bar to handle client money (!!!) ... but there are somethings that dont make sense about rosehillgirls1 post ...

We are selling our property in North Cyprus. We will be transferring the funds bit by bit as we can't transfer the entire amount without a signature-and North Cyprus is effectively closed so we can't get there to sign.
We were hoping to go to Turkey -open an account then stay while the funds were transferred (about two weeks). Of course when we go there we won't own a property yet and we will probably be renting a holiday type apartment.
It's all complicated by Covid!!

No fun if it's too easy!

I've been with YapıKredi Bank (Koç Bank as was) for 24 years....no problems.
We've used Akbank for all company accounts for going on 14 years....no problem.

A solicitor's not needed and would just be an unnecessary expense in this case.

Hi! When we left Turkey to move to North Cyprus, we (supposedly) closed our Garanti bank account, but when we moved back to Turkey, we went to the Garanti in Fethiye to open an account, and they said we still had our Bodrum Garanti account. We said we closed it. They said they don't close accounts. If you had an account in Turkey previously, it might be worth checking out. xx
