Very impressed Lorraine - I am learning and this was a great refresher for me to see what I knew and what I didn't :) Having the pronunciation really helps as well.

I know it is easier to learn from conversation, but how have you managed to learn because your written Turkish is obviously very good as well - have you had lessons [?]

Lorraine: thanks for all those word quite explicit as usual. It is more as you know layman's terms than these books we're looking at (too complicated). I'm going to print it off.
What is (I would like) and (Can I have)

Thank you everyone, I am glad that my efforts were not wasted. will keep going with more but difficult when Turkish keyboard will not pick up on forum. (so this little lot took me 2hours of typing and editing) the turkish i... with out a dot comes out as 3.05;; and the turkish g with a hat appears as .503;; and the s with a tail at the bottom makes up its own mind

I speak Turkish with a "ampshire" accent, so I don't know how you Geordies are getting on with my "idiot" pronounciations.

Lessons, yes I have taken some but I am better at reading it and listening than speaking. Digiturk TV is a great source of learning, try watching the news and weather you can pick up so much as they are self explanatory.....God what a boring life I lead.....lol

have fun

Really well done Lorraine i do ot know where you have the time.
I like some of the turkish sayings and found them ( & still do) useful

"Kolay gelsin" (koolie gellsin) may it come easy - said to people who are working -any form of work

"eline saðlik" (el'ini saaluk) literal translation health to your hands
said to people who have made/produced something for you, like your hairdresser or a cook (but not a waiter)or a tailor
"baþiniz saðolsun" ( bashinuz saaolsun) commiserations said to people who have received bad news.
& of course "afiyet olsun" (affeyet olsun) bon appetit said before during or after a meal along with eline saðlik...

Derslerinde Baþarilar (homework - find out what this means & not you starmen! let the "öðrenciler" do) [:p]
