Peace and Democracy Party member Serafettin Halis suggested a draft bill for lifting religious indication on Turkish identity cards. According to legal amendments made in 2006, religious indication still exists. The according field can be left blank upon a written application only.

I'm almost sure that I was told on my last visit out to Turkey that 'Kurdish' appeared on the ID card if you were from that area.

I found it really odd as 'Kurdistan' doesn't exist as such and Turkish Kurds have to do military service in Turkey and are officially Turkish?

Correct me if I'm wrong please.
