Love Turkey loads but in Feb it gets a bit cold and i was wondering if any of you have holidayed to Goa or Sharmel Sheik in Egypt, if so can flights be got from Istanbul and how do you book.

I have been on few website looking for flights from Istanbul but dont seem to be going on the right ones. Also if any of you go to these other countries for holidays can you recommend which areas are best as we have not been at all.

thanks in anticipation

You can get flights to Cairo in Egypt from Istanbul, then take internal flights to any of the destinations like Sharm, Hurghada & Luxor.

Hi, I can't comment on flights from Turkey, but I have been on holiday to Sharm-el-Sheik. I went just after Christmas this year (4th January 2009) and enjoyed every minute of it. It was hot through the day but defo need a cardigan/jumper/jacket at night. It will be warmer when you are thinking of going in February, but I still think you will need something for the evening.

Sharm is the most expensive place I have ever been so I would recommend you go all inclusive if possible. We stayed in the Delta Sharm which is about 10 mins. drive out of Naama Bay. It was nice but I wouldn't stay there again due to the fact it was such a hugh resort. It was also residential so people actually lived in the Delta Sharm and you needed to get a buggy to the restaurant!!

There are some beautiful hotels in Sharm but if I stayed again I would stay nearer Naama Bay rather than pay for taxi's. There is plenty to do so I am sure you would have a good time if you went there.

You should try Hurghada, it's cheaper then Sharm el Sheikh, and more of an Egyptian flavour to the place instead of a fully touristic resort.

We are going to Egypt in November/December, a week Nile cruise then a week in El Gouna on the Red Sea so can let you know when we come back if it's not too late

There should be some package holidays from Istanbul, so would be better value, can only think of Prontour and Cafe Tur (?) at the moment but a lot advertise in some of the Turkish papers travel section. Try Hürriyet on Mondays- even just for comapny names and websites.

Having done both Goa and Egypt from Turkey we would choose Goa everytime.ıstanbul direct to Bombay and then a connecting flight to Dabalim ( Goa ) Turkish tour Co's which we have used on two occasions are ok but you are rushed around so the Turks can see all the sights in Egypt. ( which we did not do having been before ) Goa in my opinion is the better bet.In saying that we are going on a Nile cruise in 3 weeks but from the UK. It's more expensive but Cairo Airport is the Pitts, so no way would I go from Turkey.

The new Cairo terminal 3 is open now and is very modern a far cry from the chaos of the old one.

Don't you need a visa for Goa which you need to get from UK? We've been thinking the same thing about February and thought maybe Thailand instead because of the visa.

We went to Egypt last year, was an experience and would nt go back there!!! Israel, Eilat is better. Sharm is a divers paradise but thats about it. Off to Goa this year but doing it via UK and getting visas first its not difficult to do - open ticket or cheap return then can go back to UK if dont like it or come back via Istanbul if we do. A visa for India from Turkey can only be obtained if you have residency of Turkey but if you get a visa in Uk you can enter India from any country. Friends did Thailand and although they liked it prefer Goa saying its a lot more cheaper once you get there.

Weare going to Egypt from Turkey in January.Going Istanbul to Cairo then Egyptian airways to Luxor.Taking a 3 days break in Cairo,to see the pyrimids, then onwards.Got a good price on flights, except the Egyptian airlines one which we thought was expensive, and also got good deal on hotel in Lxor through an english site.
We prefer Kerala to Goa,further south and not so touristy but have not been from here, although we are planning to long stay in northern india later next year.
Good luck wherever you choose.

Just check it all out on line...........everything is always so flippin complicated in Turkey. I think you have to have Bank Statements etc when applying from here, you dont in UK.
Good Luck maybe we will meet up with you there. We been told Candolim and Baga are the nicer areas, so we heading there first off.

Just come back from Hurghada -- our hotel was superb - but we were miles away from cilvilasation -- 1 hour drive to Hurghada itself - weather perfect at 32 dg but would not go back to that area again
Last year Sharm El Sheikh was MUCH better -- best to do all inclusive as Egypt IS
expensive for eating and drinking !
We did Goa 4 years agao but chose the wrong area - Calungute -- would not go back to North Goa again - maybe try the South
Gambia is a lovely place to visit also
We do our holidays from the UK as cheaper.

Loved Sri Lanka but a bit quiet for us.....went direct from Turkey.
Hated Sharm - is ok for a week if you like suba diving thats about all. Its a purpose resort in the desert and very expensive, though we had a trip down to israel which was a bit of an adventure and into Eilat which is nicer than Sharm.
Goa we love love love it - Candolim is the best place, Calangute busier and dirtier and Baga is nice........nothing down South is too Indian. Two months is tops we wish we had not have stayed so long but now there are visa restrictions and unless you have residencey permit in Turkey is a real pain and hasstle to get your visa from Turkey.
The next place for winter has got to be Cambodia Laos and Vietnam, visas on entry and still relatively uncommercialised. Thailand we just do not fancy and friends told us its very expensive there now.
We can have a lovely night out in goa with drinks and qulaity meals for under a tenner for the two of us, people are nice and the beach fantastic with the shacks. Would recommend it to anyone although we did treck around for budget accommodation and you get what you pay for from around 6 to seven quid a night up to silly prices but never ever pay the first asking price for anything.
