Hi All , Not sure if I am in the right forum but I am planning my move for later this year and basically I was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 but quick op chemo and rads problem solved, I know somewhere along the line I'll have to declare this but to me its not a Pre-existing condition, Anyone any experience of this as in providers/costs etc for insurance ??? I'll still be heading back to UK for my yearly review/mot.

Do a search for 'long term travel health insurance'. Don't just search travel insurance.

I think you already know that not disclosing your history will have repercussions should you ever make a claim and it is discovered you withheld anything.

Once you declare that history then I am not sure anyone could advise of costs because it would not be standard underwriting therefore many factors would come into play.

Good luck though.

Jmeg.,you'll need the special Turkish health insurance when you apply for your Residence Permit and this will be classed as pre existing and you won't find any company who'll cover you for cancer should it affect you again.

You dont give your age but if you are over 65 you dont have to have health insurance to apply for an ikamet, because there is little or no insurance available for a first time applicant over 65. Insurers will normally only continue to offer cover for a long term health policy if you were under 65 when you started the policy.

Assuming you are not yet 65, if you have been clear for 5 years there are companies that will offer some cover. It depends on the cancer and your general state of health now. They may not cover a recurrence of the same cancer, but that doesn't mean that all cancers are ruled out. You need to look very carefully at the policy documents and conditions, and get any additional information in writing. If you can only get info on the phone make sure you keep a note of the day, date and time you spoke, the questions asked and the replies, and the name of the person you spoke to.
The max term you will get on travel related cover is 6 months outside UK. Even this can be complicated as some companies, like Insure & Go, will only offer cover if you have not left the UK for 6 months before the date of application.

Some health insurers will offer good cover with a 2 year ' moratorium' on p/e conditions, with full cover thereafter. This means they will only offer cover on the pre-existing condition after the first 2 years of the policy.
Depending on your age and plans to stay / live in Turkey you may find it better to look at an international health insurance policy offering a moratorium, as sold to expats who go to places like Dubai etc to work. You need a broker for best advice.
That said, if you are going to be a permanent resident it is still worth asking SGK how far they will cover you if you have been clear since 2013. Also consider just keeping a sum of money aside in Turkey for any health bills and pay as you go.
