Harvey Nichols To Open Flagship Store In Istanbul
Harvey Nichols has announced that it is opening a flagship store in Istanbul as the luxury department store chain accelerates expansion. The new store in Turkey, due to open in September 2006, will be Harvey Nichols' fifth overseas store. It already operates in Riyadh and will next month open outlets in Hong Kong and Dublin. The retailer, which has five stores across the UK, is also opening a site in Dubai at the end of the year.

The Istanbul store will be run by Unitim Group, a Istanbul-based company that distributes brands such as Tommy Hilfiger and Camper in Turkey. Burc Cemiloglu, Chairman and Chief Executive, said the arrival of Harvey Nichols in Istanbul would "strengthen (Turkey's) image as the premier global destination for shopping and tourism". Dickson Poon, the flamboyant owner of the upmarket UK chain, has made it clear that he is keen to extend the Harvey Nichols brand further and has plans to expand into China and other parts of south-east Asia. South America and India were other potential markers for the department store chain, according to Joseph Wan, Chief Executive
