For all interested. If you need free health care from a gp in altinkum go to the new H/C NEAR THE MARINA APARTMENTS.There are 3 doctors avilable, open 8am to 5pm, 5 days a week. They do not speak English bit the Chemist Jasmin across the raod is only too happy to help. Kenny.

ps: all state hospitals are also free to use.

Hi Keny. I'm not sure that state hospitals are free, my husband recently had to have some tests done at the state hospital in Bodrum and while they were cheap compared to private medical care they certainly were not free, I am interested to find out where you got this information from as it would be useful to know for the future if in fact its true, thanks

Sorry but I feel this is wrong information...........it will be free if you got health insurance. Also its not much good if they dont speak English, its dangerous to communicate in broken english for medical problems there could be such stupid and dangerous misunderstandings, and why would three doctors set up free medical healthcare for brits in Turkey???

And with due respect the state hospitals are definately NOT FREE to use, I know from experience recently!! This is for English and Turkish.

Hello All,
I got the information from the pharmacist. As I stated in this particular case this h/c is government sponsored and the pharmacist speaks excellent english and is only too happy to help. Kenny.

İ think that what you have come across is a Sağlık Ocağı..these are not gp's but are clinics run by the government where they do health checks, immunisation ,antenatal and child health care etc. You can get repeat prescriptions etc...they will also change dressings and other care procedures.
they are not free but the charge is minimal and they will refer you on to a specialist if they feel this is appropriate.
there is a Sağlık Ocağı in every Mahalle in towns small towns and villages. they will keep a record of your visits and checks etc so they will have easy reference should you need their servicies again.

think your right shirly, A few yrs back i was breaking up a dog fight and got a scratch on my skin and had to go to salik ocagi (spelling) where they gave me a course of Kuduz jabs rabies, as a precaution free of charge. I know take my daughter there for her injections and check ups which are all free. not the nicest of places, well the one here isnt , dont know about everywhere else but they do what needs to be done. Although i must say i would never go there with an actual health problem.
