Have you any information on fly fishing in the greater Fethiye area at all?

We have two detached villas. One in Calis and one in Uzumlu though I only get to visit Turkey perhaps once or twice in a year.

I've found a place pronounced Oran or Uran but it's probably not spelt this way! It is about 30 minutes drive from Uzumlu.

It is a mountain region that is fed by a fast flowing river. As you drive down the winding main road there are many small trout rearing small holdings and one large trout farm with a restaurant where you can eat the trout while sitting by the river.

I have asked if the trout escape into the river and if it's worth fishing it but I can't make myself understood as my Turkish is awful.

I took a photo one year and later noticed that a man was standing waist deep with possibly a fly rod in his hand way off into the distance.
I can't believe that such beautiful rivers and streams don't support trout.
Any information on the greater Fethiye area would be greatfully received.

If you think it's worth bringing my rods then would you please let me know?

Kind regards,

John

Hi John, I too am a keen flyfisher in the Uk. I have a place in Side not far from the river that flows through Manavgat and there is a huge lake nearby. I have seen the locals bait fishing but no one with a fly rod. There is a lot of info on this site, go to 'forums' top left and scroll down until you come to the fishing site. The worst thing you will find is that a license including the sea costs 150 Lira [5 lira for a Turk]. I have no idea if this is enforced but it could be expensive to find out!
Kind regards Phil

John. You are referring to Oren which is indeed a short distance from Uzumlu.

I believe Immac is your man if you're interested in fishing in the Fethiye area.

Hi john

Try the small bay's & harbours with fly lures

I was fishing in a bay not far from turgutries (just past Gumusluk)
we had brought 2 old carp rods & spinning rods from the uk + a selection of lures

we were able to walk out around 100 yrds, and as we were reeling in our lures they were followed by either bass or grey mullet but as soon as they noticed our legs they turned back out to sea, we also found the best time for fishing
as always - is early mornings or late evenings when the larger fish come in to feed on the smaller ones,
also the winter months are the best time for bass,---but they are there in the summer
the problem is early mornings were out for us, due to effes
& late evenings were no good because of enjoyment looking for effes
this year i must try harder & be a good boy.
I have also seen someone fly fishing of gumusluk pier,he was very successful he amazed the turkish fishermen ,they had never seen anything like it before.

Had the fish been interested would they not have bitten before getting to the stage where they could see your legs? One could always camouflage
ones legs of course, but as what I will leave to your imagination. Great Gear, that Effes, Innit?.
