I think people have not only lost confidence in the EU but also in some individual Governments.....inevitability hits home. Local elections in France yesterday saw Macrons Party slump.

Certainly the French have lost confidence in the "Right" ... centre right Macron and thankfully the Far Right of Le Pen ....all round bad night for the "Right" ....lets hope its catching on....

Marine le Pen’s far-right party falls short in France’s regional elections

France’s far-right political party fell short of expectations in the first round of regional elections this weekend, raising questions about how much influence it will have in next year’s presidential vote.

The National Rally (RN) — formerly known as National Front — came first in only one region in the south of France, and got around 19% of the national vote, according to an Ipsos exit poll. This is worse than the party performed in the regional elections of 2015. The second round of this year’s regional election takes place next weekend.

“The French far right leader Marine Le Pen was the great loser in the first round of French regional elections today — seriously deflating her hopes of challenging strongly for the presidency next year,” Mujtaba Rahman, managing director at the consultancy firm Eurasia Group, said in a note Sunday.

Macron next year will be in a win, win situation. Win the French elections & remain President. Lose the French elections & become part of the Brussels elite.

Its absolutely undeniable that the spectacular failure of the vaccine roll out severely damaged EU credibility amongst its citizens

I think it goes a lot further than that myself, individual Governments could’ve taken a hold of the situation when they realised what was occurring over the vaccine procurements.
I think the EUs idea over the procurements was a good idea, it was the execution of it that was abysmal.

Looks like the Dokuz 28 reporter is adding her own spin ... bigging up Turkey's status or possibly her English isn't up to par ...by using "Rival " which gives the pretension or claim ; standing in competition for superiority which economically Turkey is far from a rival...

She would have been better sticking to the language of the report which used instead the word "adversary" meaning nothing more than an opponent. And suits more The Turkish Presidents blackmail politics with the EU

Dokuz 28 said : according to the report, an important aspect for Turkey is that many people in Europe see Turkey as the main rival of the EU rather than China.

Report said :
Turkey is the only country that more Europeans see as an adversary than a necessary partner. Given that Turkey is a NATO member – unlike China, Russia, India, and Japan, all of which Europeans consider less threatening – this finding is quite worrying. Only 25 percent of Europeans see Turkey as a necessary partner, and only 4 per cent see it as an ally with shared values and interests. In Germany, 41 per cent of respondents consider Turkey an adversary.

Dokuz 28 said : Yet, despite the lack of public confidence, the belief that more cooperation is needed among EU countries remains widespread. In all countries surveyed, with the exception of France and Germany,

What the report actually said ...... "Despite their disappointment with current EU institutions, Europeans still believe in the importance of the European project.Majorities everywhere except for France and Germany still say that covid-19 shows the need for more European cooperation"

Also a pity she also didn't report the relevant part of of the report it's Conclusion ...

Fifteen months after the start of the covid-19 pandemic, many European citizens have less confidence in EU institutions. Their hopes and expectations for better and more effective European cooperation – which were visible at the beginning of this crisis – have obviously not been met.

Still, Europeans seem to recognise that the leaders of the current institutions, however much they may disappoint, only have temporary stewardship of the EU. The European project still enjoys strong support among the populations of EU member states. But our survey shows that the permissive consensus for the European project can no longer be taken for granted. It is a wake-up call to channel the remaining support for the EU in the right direction .

It wasn’t all down to the EU, comments made over vaccines by certain people contributed to the fiasco. Some seeing fit to counter the likes of the EMAs findings.
The price to be paid by politicians is nothing compared to the price paid by their populations.
