Epsom salts are a magnesium based salt and plants absorb it to use the magnesium as a 'building block' for chlorophyll - the green pigment in leaves which allows the plant to use photosynthesis to produce sugars (and oxygen) from a chemical reaction between water and carbon dioxide with sunlight providing the 'power'
Small doses of epsom salt therefore enhances the plants efficiency - but too much can cause the leaves to yellow and the plant becomes less efficient and dies.
So be careful how much you use!!!
