duty on car parts brought in from abroad

İ was wondering if anyone has experience of the costs and difficulties of bringing in new motor parts for my car--its a classic car and what i require can only be bought abroad(USA or UK)- it would be postal sized parcels.

What type of car?

If you can get the parts sent to Germany or the parts are available in Germany I could get them for you - as long as it is not an engine or gearbox!

the car is a Vw and getting them in germany would be great because they are a lot cheaper! i dont want big things but here basic things either arent good quality or non existant!---i look on German ebay but i cant ask questions or even join the site such is my lack of linguistic ability!!

if the supplier made out a preference document called an ATR1 for goods from the EU they would be duty free , or if the parts were only a few hundred pounds the supplier could make a signed declaration on the invoice to claim the same .
