Rough and brief translation:

"After a year long investigation, the Jandarma apprehended 17 people at 5 a.m. this morning, including the mayor, Beyhan Korkut, 2 council members, 7 belediye employees and 7 contractors on suspicion of fixing contracts, appropriating accounts and bribery.

Interrogation of the suspects at Dalaman Jandarma Headquarters would continue.

As the result of the election was not yet confirmed, the mayor was left free."

Lol, they prove it themselves.

Why on earth let the mayor go? As a result of things I have doing lately the amount of bowing and scraping to a person with a title is laughable. They nearly bend in two. Why cant they see its just a job, not canonization.

hmm indeed..i think it reeks when they have chosen the morning of the election to do the raid..after having them under observation for a year.

I know exactly what you mean about 'bowing and scraping' usually to an uncouth peasant.........in the desperate hope (!) that they would do what they are paid for. I have just read the story. Interesting that these are people from the 'religious' party. No conflict there then. The story says that the mayor and various others including 7 building contractors were ARRESTED and are being held by the Jandarma for questioning. Does NOT say anyone was released. The final sentence in article says 'due to unclear election results, the mayor has been declared as losing his job'. I also read the reader's comments below. All very happy at this arrest. One person is saying that these people tried to steal his family land. Position of power is not seen as a job or vocation/duty is seen as a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. I think the Turkish Inland Revenue should take a keener interest in these people.

Rumour has it that a total of 41 people have now been arrested. It is all a very sorry state of affairs for Dalaman.

Assistant Mayor and Town Planning Manager G.F.
Accounts Manager H.K.
Technical Department Manager İ.O.
Previous Transport Manager and the Mayor's elder brother O.K.
Municipality employees N.Ç., B.K., A.Ş., A.K.
Contractors K.İ., M.K., N.T., H.K., M.O.
Tradesmen A.G., İ.T., O.A.

Hands up those who've had any (perhaps ... less than satisfactory) dealings with any of the above!

The article also mentions Contractor M.O. constructed the Municipality Building.

well i never, who would of thought this sort of behaviour of an honourable, trustworthy figure of society, and all this happened in Turkey, well well well, i wonder how much they will have to pay for the file to get lost or some other method to reduce the allegations to a mere misunderstanding.

So far they have only been arrested. Didn't something similar happen in Didim one or two years ago? Isn't someone with the same name as one of those carted off in handcuffs at that time now a leading light in the Didim business community? Early days yet.

A similar thing was reported recently in Fethiye,its little wonder these things occur when they all feed and water at the same holes,political leaders should always distance themselves from local businesmen when socialising or this thing is bound to happen.

A similar thing was reported recently in Fethiye,its little wonder these things occur when they all feed and water at the same holes,political leaders should always distance themselves from local businesmen when socialising or this thing is bound to happen.

I think the the 'whole' story-or what is known up to now, has only been available in the Turkish press.

It doesn't mean that your development or complex is affected-so don't panic yet.

If you're worried contact your Solicitor or your Estate Agent-I'm sure they will have info.

Sorry I don't have time to do the whole thing, but the excerpt below is the bit of most interest to home owners and potential owners in the Dalaman area. The rest is mainly about irregularities in materials, roadworks, paving, building contracts etc.

"Among the allegations it was stated that for villas of K.I. and F.I. that did not have tapus or permits, they had given a house in Eska as a bribe to Beyhan Korkut, in return for which tapus and permits were given under the new Town Plan that was prepared during Korkut's period as mayor."

K.I. and F.I. ? Now who could that be, I wonder …………

K.I is the Manageing Director and Chairman of Churbanoglu Homes in Dalaman,currently in prison.
