These are appearing as the main advertiser on another Turkey related forum. Just the kind of publicity Turkey doesn't need.

Turkey is another country currently outside of the Euro zone that is likely to see a boom in tourism in coming years. Turkey is popular for 'all inclusive' package style holidays but its reputation has been blighted in recent times by tourists' complaints of poor standards of hygiene at destinations

Yes, I had a look at this site out of curiosity, I noticed that practically every resort was listed. I do not believe that thay all have a problem. We often go to AI resorts out of season and find most are excellent even a 3 star in Marmaris, the only time we have had a problem was in Kusadasi at the end of the season on a transfer day and the breakfast even looked suspicious, yes we should have known better, the ones in the Alanya area have been absolutely superb. Having said that we like Turkish food, not all British tourists on holiday do!

Two new elements arose in our training program this year - one was the first time visitors to Turkey and the insurance scammers.

Firstly, more first time visitors to Turkey was expected this year because of the Euro driving the tourists away from the rest of Europe. Hence it was brought to our notice that there would be a lot of complaints made about accommodation and health & safety standards in our Turkish hotels. The people were used to standards found in Spain, Italy, France etc. For example a 3 star hotel in Hisaranou would be tantamount to a 1 star hotel or guest house in Benidorm and so we were alerted to receive lots of complaints and explain how things are in Turkey with regard to this aspect.

The second thing that arose, was the fact that this year there was a worldwide economic crisis and there would be a lot of people who would claim for any small accident that arose (such as slipping over around a wet swimming pool) etc. Particularly minor accidents that would otherwise occur and not normally be reported would be made an issue in that the guests would have a chance at claiming some of the expense of their holiday on their return to the UK.

Our insurers this year were particular in stipulating that an Accident Book had to be available at the reception of all hotels and all minor accidents within the hotel premises had to be reported. In fact some of the hotels were so on the ball, that they had CCTV fitted in and around the accommodation.

sadly when a brochure sells a 3 star hotel, should a client assume its 3 or 1 star, I have 25 + years of holidaying and owning in Turkey but guess a lot dont, maybe the operators deserve the law suits !

Please, please don't let the insurance companies stitich up Turkey like they have the rest of the world. Before we know it the health insurance and accident insurances will be going up to compensate for people rying to get money for practically nothing. An illness here is usually due to the change in water and food, better here and less addititives so therefore foreign to the European digestive system. If Turkey ever gets in the E.U. it will be the end of somewhere different and letting insurance companies like the one linked advertise on this forum is wrong - it is the start of the downfall of a lovely country where one used to be liable for their own mistakes - not passing the buck as in the USA and E.U. countries. It would be better stopped before it gets too much of a hold. After all the people who really make money out of all these claims are the insurance companies with their cut and their higher premiums.
